Connecting Melanesia's bio-cultural heartbeat
The News & Updates page shares stories from across the Melanesia Bio‑Cultural Network — highlighting the people, places, and practices shaping biocultural conservation in the region.

Research News
Our research showcases the strength of Melanesian‑led knowledge and collaboration. Communities and researchers work together to document governance systems, map biocultural landscapes, and co‑produce ethical research that supports local decision‑making. These updates highlight how Indigenous knowledge and science combine to advance conservation, climate resilience, and long‑term stewardship.

Training and Capacity Building
Our Training and Capacity Building initiatives strengthen local skills and leadership in Melanesian conservation. Through workshops, mentoring, and hands‑on learning, we support communities, researchers, and practitioners to develop the knowledge and tools needed for effective, locally led stewardship of land and sea.

Conservation and climate action on the ground
We highlight practical conservation efforts across the region. Learn about the establishment or strengthening of customary conservation areas, ranger programmes, restoration activities, and biodiversity protection. We also share local responses to climate impacts, including adaptation strategies, and ridge‑to‑reef and land–sea stewardship initiatives. These updates show how Indigenous leadership contributes directly to biodiversity protection and climate resilience.
